Frequently Asked Questions

Prairie River Gardens — Meet Owner, Genevieve Jones.

How does the waitlist work?

If you have joined our waitlist you are in queue behind our design clients who signed on for designs the previous fall. These clients receive estimates and scheduling first, usually by mid-April. Once this first group of estimates goes out we will know who is committing to a project this season and who is not. The people who do not commit create an opening in our installation calendar. If you are on the waitlist you can expect to receive an email closer to the end of April with a calendar to schedule your consultation. Finding room in our schedule for new installation projects depends on the size of the project. Larger projects may have to wait for the following spring if we cannot find a suitable window of time in the current season.

Do I need a design?

In some form or other I usually end up sketching a yard before I work in it. Whether it is a full design with plant list or a rough sketch for my own application.

With a design in hand I can produce an accurate estimate quoting a budget for your plants, material and labour. With a design in hand we can break your project down into phases according to the budget you have. A design is never static and can always be tweaked.

I want my yard to be low maintenance and easy care. What are my options?

This is a question of personal perception. I will need you to be clear on what low maintenance looks like to you. There is no such thing as a no maintenance garden. Gardens, plants, lawns all of them require upkeep to a certain degree. automatic irrigation is a major timesaver (life saver too).

We also provide spring, fall and summer maintenance if you would like more upkeep but don’t necessarily have the time yourself.
