Community Cemetery
Project Location: Saskatoon, SK
This project is tremendously special and my crew and I worked hard to make sure everything was done just right. Our clients who have been with us for 3 years now asked if we would be available to beautify a section of their community’s cemetery. This is a very special place for many families and we wanted to ensure that the landscaping we installed would enhance the beauty of the space while also blending well with the surrounding scenery and overall atmosphere of this place.
For this project we selected large Balled and Burlapped trees from Lakeshore Tree Farm. Balled and Burlapped trees can give you 12 feet of height right away. They are much older than any tree you will get in a plant pot. These trees, because they are so large, are also very heavy so it does take heavy machinery to dig the holes and install these trees.
We chose Spring Snow Flowering Crab and Ming Cherries for their stunning display of blossoms in the spring. Baby Blue Spruce will create habitat for birds and a contrasting pallet of textures and colours. Dwarf Mugo Pine and Karl Foerster Grass require minimal attention, they are extremely low maintenance and drought tolerant. Each bed is accented with Catmint. One of my favourite perennials, Catmint blooms all summer long and is an absolute stunner! Finally we planted a swath of Hazel Dean Roses which will bloom continuously. All of our shrubs and perennials for this job came from Dieter Martin Green House in Langham. I have been buying my plants for 7+ years now from Nancy Martin out at Dieter Martin Greenhouse. Nancy takes tremendous pride in the quality of plants she stocks and she has become a good friend and mentor!
We are excited to see how this garden looks this spring!
